Things I Miss Most About Pakistan in Ramadan

The Sehri Times – When mum used to make so many trips to the bedroom to wake me up for Sehri. The phainiyan (vermicilli type of thing), the anda paratha (egg and flatbread) and the glass of milk that mum always forced me to gulp down my throat. Gone are the days when I was just supposed to eat and resume sleep.

Iftaar and dinner deals at restaurants especially the ‘all you can eat’ deals.
Various rounds of eating the Iftaar leftovers ‘pakoras (dumplings), samosas, cholas (chick-pea), fruit chaat …’ until dawn.

For yummy-licious food, do check Nafees' Kitchen (based in Karachi) that caters cuisines for all occasions. All food is prepared with utmost care and hygiene using fresh ingredients to ensure good taste and quality.

Fruit chaat prepared by Mum

The several invitations to Iftaar dinners by friends and family. Because mum also needs rest from the kitchen.

Receiving surprise Iftaari platters from the neighbours and fighting with the siblings for that one piece of samosa.

The late night Eid shopping sessions & not to forget the Chaand raat and last minute shopping spree. Because there is something all of us always need despite of 'so many' shopping sessions already done earlier. I haven't done this in years!

My hand on some Eid I spent in Pakistan

The rush to the tailor master and pleading them to give the joras before Eid & of course, not ruining it.

The 'Chaand Raat' ... Going to salons for mehndi with friends or siblings.

Receiving those colourful Eidi envelopes (money wallets) with Eid Mubarak written on them. PersonallyYours based in Karachi provides beautiful handmade envelopes and cards that are just perfect!

The Eid brunch table (and not actually breakfast because no one would wake-up that early) ... Ah! Mentioning food again? I so miss those food tables.

I hope to spend next Ramadan in my country. Ah ... Sigh!

Tell me about that one item that you cannot have Iftaar without (No dates or water, please!) or share your favourite Ramadan or Eid tradition.
